Author Naomi Hirahara will be at Readers’ Books on Thursday, August 22nd to present her latest mystery. There will be a 6:30 reception and a 7:00 reading. Ms. Hirahara is the author of the Mas Arai mystery series, which features a quirky Japanese-American gardener and Hiroshima survivors in Los Angeles. Her new mystery, Iced in Paradise, introduces a new series: Leilani Santiago on the island of Kaua’i. Leilani has returned home to help her mother--who has been diagnosed with MS--run the family business, a shave ice shack. When Leilani arrives at work one morning, she stumbles across the dead body of a young pro surfer. As Leilani’s estranged father, who was coaching the surfer, soon becomes the primary murder suspect, she must find the real killer and somehow safeguard her ill mother, little sisters, and grandmother, while trying to keep the long-distance relationship with her boyfriend alive.

With Iced in Paradise, award-winning mystery writer Naomi Hirahara is at the top of her game, introducing a smart, outspoken, sometimes cranky young sleuth and immersing readers in the charms and quirks of small-town Hawaiian life.
